Under the BWBC constitution, there can only be 5 Life Members at any time, and they are proposed and elected as Life Members at a General Meeting.

I spoke with the current Life Members of BWBC separately and found they shared several qualities and comments – all have a love of the game of bridge and have enjoyed playing at BWBC ‘s various premises over the years. They have appreciated their teachers and also the club members they themselves have been able to help. All commented on the pleasure they have had hosting and going to the many Congresses around, extending their skills and enjoyment beyond their BWBC network. All have spent many hours in playing the game and gathered in their share of Masterpoints

All have given many hours, in formal roles as well as casually and are generous in their friendship and warmth towards others, qualities that have made the BWBC what it is, and them worthy Life Members.

Noel Crockett

Noel started playing bridge in 1974 at Lindfield, a very large club, playing weekly for over 20 years. He had no formal classes but learned from playing with long time partner Jim Gould. He joined BWBC in 1996

Lorraine Lindsay

Lorraine started playing bridge when she joined BWBC in February 1981. There were no set lessons in those days, you grabbed a book and learned as you went along. Lorraine has held several executive positions:

Marilyn Whigham

Marilyn started playing bridge at BWBC 1991 with lessons from Lorraine (Lindsay). Marilyn was influenced by Lorraine who shared her love for the game as well as the techniques of play and really taught appreciation and enjoyment of the game of bridge. Marilyn was a member during the years that BWBC was at home in Ocean Beach and Umina Beach surf clubs before moving to its current site at Peninsula Community Centre, in Woy Woy.

Phyllis Whyte

Phyllis started playing bridge in 1999. When Pat Deighton stood up at exercise class and said she was going to bridge Phyllis went too. Phyllis had played cards all her life though not bridge but had always wanted to. So, at 68 she joined BWBC and took lessons conducted by Lorraine (Lindsay). She then volunteered to help with these lessons and did so for 15 years

Barry Foster

Barry joined BWBC: 2008 Barry can claim to have had lessons from Lorraine Lindsay, (a trial of having lessons 5 days in a row!) in the early 2000s; later from Helen Eaton, and Christine Hadaway before also benefiting from several years of group lessons from wife Sylvia.
