Vale Heather Munday

Heather and Warwick at our Christmas Party 2009.

Heather was a member of our club for many years. She played most of her bridge career with good friend Bobbie Lyons and sometimes with her husband Warwick. I particularly remember Heather as part of the Charity Team trio with Bobbie Lyons and Lucy Van Veen. Over a number of years they raised a great deal of money for the Ladies Refuge located near our bridge club. Their efforts brought immense credit to our membership. Heather was a quiet, kind person and will be missed by all who knew her.

Easter Pairs 2023

The Easter Pairs Red Point event drew a goodly number of competitors vying for the honours. There were eighteen hopeful pairs, six in the "rookie" under 50 Masterpoint field and twelve in the over 50 Mpt (open ) field who were greeted with the usual sprinkling of very tricky boards.

Congratulations to the Winners : Carolyn Girdwood and Rohan Creasey and Chris Williams and Jan Clarke who sure look happy.

Thanks must go to Director Chris Hannan, who managed both sections.

Upside Down Pairs, a resounding success.

Winners were Martin Johnson - Michael Greenfield (N/S) and Sylvia Foster - Marcelle Goslin (E/W)

Last Monday the Club conducted it’s annual Upside Down Pairs. It is an opportunity for an experienced player, covered in lots of Red and Gold points, to play with someone aspiring to reach those same dizzy heights. The event was so popular with those wishing to learn, the field was oversubscribed. In order to accommodate as many as possible it was necessary to recruit good players from Central Coast Leagues Club Bridge Club, the Club would like to thank Henrietta Hohnen, Anne Grayden and Wendy Mitchell for their wonderful support.

Also, many thanks to all our experts for participating and sharing their invaluable experience.
It was a really fun event and Director Peter Hume started the session with a few upside down jokes.
If you wish to play next year watch the noticeboard and get in early.

Club Teams Champions

open teams

Seven teams contested the Open Teams Championship and in the end it was a close tussle between two teams who each had five wins.

Team Wulff (Dasha Brandt - Susan McCall - David Bowerman - Judy Wulff) finished ahead of Team Foster (Martin Johnson - Hope Tomlinson - Barry Foster - Jim Routledge) by 3.6 VPs.

It was a smoothly run and good spirited day of bridge directed by Gary Barwick. Great to see a rookie team (Kerry-Anne Durrant - Carolyn Girdwood - Carolyn Harper - Sue Ashley) having a go in the open field.

How did you start playing Bridge?

.

We all enjoy our regular game of Bridge. The fun, the camaraderie, the excitement when you get a really good hand, when a finesse works (no me either), just the enjoyment of being with all the other members.

Have you thought about asking a friend or two to come along to learn to play? Think back? How do you first get interested in our great game? Was it a friend? In my case it sure was and I can’t thank him enough. You could be such a friend.
