Swiss Pairs Championship (Restricted <300 MPTS).

This annual event proved a winner, yet again. It is an opportunity for up and coming players, while competing against those of similar ability, to accumulate some of those much sought after masterpoints.

The game was played over consecutive Wednesday afternoons with three, six board matches played each day. A field of sixteen pairs committed to play. The significance of the Swiss movement is that your next opponent is decided by your score from the previous round. So winners play winners and losers play losers. You never play against the same pair twice. Points are awarded after each round.

Congratulations to winning pair Faith Ross and Elaine Hume.  And thanks to Director Peter Hume who kept the event proceeding successfully.

Charity begins at home.

The annual Jean Pelham Charity Day Pairs was conducted last Thursday (18th May).
The charity chosen this year was the SDA Charity Pantry. The pantry is open every second Friday and operates from the SDA Church opposite the entrance to Peninsula Plaza shopping mall.
For the princely sum of only $10 you can fill a shopping trolley with whatever you want and is available.
It is a sad reflection on our modern society that so many people have to rely on these people who do such a wonderful job.
Our Club raised over $800 and counting.
The monies came from the table fees ($15:00) per person. This included a selection of homemade donated soups, which were delicious, and a fresh bread roll. Also a fantabulous array of cakes and other nibblies for afters.
The monster raffle of all donated prizes. Thank you to our very generous members who bought tickets and those from other clubs who also supported us but couldn’t attend. Hope your prize was something you were hoping for.
Finally, to the lovely lady who donated her most delicious jams and pickles. Looking forward to toast tomorrow. Thank you to all our wonderful chefs.

The main organiser is David, ably assisted by Mick, and a team of dedicates volunteers. Congratulations to you all. You are doing a wonderful job.
Mick and David doing a great job.

What a wonderful turnout for our annual charity day.
The soups were delicious.
The bread rolls were crisp.
The cakes and biscuits were superb.
Thank you to our fantabulous chefs.
The raffle table was laden with lots of great prizes
Thirty eight players graced the starting line ready for action.
With so many the field was divided into North/ South and East/ West.
Everything was going marvellously until one pair skipped the sit-out table and began playing with the wrong pair.
Fortunately Director Christine was right on the ball and a disaster was averted.
