December 2020 Bulletin

Hi All, Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, Cracking Kwanza,

Greetings from the Committee, a final bulletin for 2020! So, some news -

Committee Meeting:

The Committee held its final meeting of the year at the Margarita Daze Restaurant.  The place was hopping so you could not hear yourself talk, let alone anyone else at the table. As a result BEST COMMITTEE MEETING EVER!!!!!! It consisted of much head nodding, some sign language and basically designating Peter (the President) to do any work required, that was a unanimous head nod! (We paid our own tab!)

Some good news is that there has been a lightening of the COVID restrictions. We can go back to having additional tables in the Club room, without the need to run two separate movements. This allows us to rethink the ongoing hire of the Seniors Room as attendance still has not reached pre-COVID numbers,  giving us some extra rent relief.

Membership Renewals

Possibly bad news, it is time to renew your membership! No need to tell you that our Club membership is the best value of any entertainment on the Coast (the ENTIRE Coast!)! Renewals have not gone up this year (we just received the “official pay us your money now” from the ABF – their fees did not go down and that is where most of the renewal money goes).

A standard membership renewal is $36.00 and non-home club is $10.00. Preferred method of paying is electronic – the bank details are BSB 032-527 Account No 166855 and include your name or you can pay at the Club using your credit card. If you have to pay cash, please contact Beryl Lowry (our Treasurer) and arrangements can be made.

A special thank you to some of our members.

Bobbi Lyons. Bobbi makes the delicious preserves that are for sale at the Club. All proceeds are donated to the Local Peninsula Women’s Health Centre. Over the years this has amounted to hundreds of dollars and the Centre will receive another cheque this week. Thank you, Bobbi, (and if you are looking for a jar of her home-made plum sauce, too bad, I took the last one and the Beetroot Relish – both delish).

Noel and Shirley Crockett. Noel and Shirley go to extraordinary lengths to decorate their home every year with a Christmas Light display (Booker Bay Road) with all donation monies going to charity.  This year they also  gave the club a donation, as they have been unable to return to face-to-face play. Both members are Grand Master players (and Noel is a life member), their kindness extends to all members at the Club, (but especially us Novices) to whom they are unfailing gracious and generous.

Closures and Events

Closures over the holiday period.  Yes, the Bridge Club does occasionally close its doors. So, no Bridge on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Years Day, all other sessions play as normal – but you are expected to wear festive headgear. To make up for closing, there are some Red Point Events on the horizon, yay!

New Years Cup - Saturday 2 January 12.30 pm -

will include a section for under 50 masterpoint if minimum five tables pre-register. (Open section pre-entry not required, only under 50 section)

Individual Club Championship - 2 sessions, Monday 11 & Monday 18 January
must attend both sessions. $15.

Australia Day Pairs - Tuesday 26 January 12.30 pm -

It just remains now for the Committee to thank you all for your support in what has been an exceptionally trying year. I think our club weathered the storm well and we will emerge “different but good”. The Committee wishes you and your families the very, very best for 2021 (let us just forget that 2020 happened, it has been a tough year for everyone). Have a lovely, safe and healthy holiday and see you at the table next year.
