Muswellbrook Congress

Four BWBC pairs attended Muswellbrook.

After the Saturday Pairs qualifying our BWBC hopefuls were divided into two divisions. Hope Tomlinson and Barry Foster finished 2nd in the ‘Plate’. Our other duos made the more prestigious final with Dasha Brandt & David Bowerman finishing 5th. Our other pairs had difficulty making an impression in this quality field,

The Sunday Teams saw an improvement in our fortunes. Team Foster won 50 % of their matches.  The BIG movers were Team Bowerman. Winning 5 of 6 matches they secured 2nd place. Beaten by a hotshot Sydney/Newcastle squad they performed extremely well.

Team Foster: Barry Foster, Hope Tomlinson, Chris Hasemore & Martin Johnson.

Team Bowerman, David Bowerman, Dasha Brandt, Sylvia Foster & Lorraine Lindsay.

Well done to all participants.  We all enjoyed an excellent afternoon of bridge.

Spring Pairs Report

Twenty duos signed up for our Spring Pairs red point event held on a rather pleasant Wednesday afternoon. The player numbers turned out just right and Director Sylvia was able to run the event in Open and Novice Divisions.

The event attracted some higher ranked players leading to a session of higher standard than normal. Congratulations to Open winners Marilyn Jarrett and Jenny Buckley taking 1st spot with a huge 62% from consistent pair Marcelle Goslin & Jim Routledge. Bridge stalwarts Dasha Brandt & David Bowerman filled the final podium spot.

spring pairs

The Novice section attracted 12 pairs which indicates a growing interest in our special events. John Aldersley & Beryl Lowry managed a 1% win from Bob Lowry & Dieter Mucharsky. Third went to club stalwarts Helve Beale & Roz Harvey. Its interesting to note the podium percentages were so close that there was probably only a winning trick or two making the difference.

Thanks all for a lovely afternoon at the Woy Woy home of bridge.

AGM Pairs

Twenty two duos contested the AGM Pairs in two sections (13 in Open & 9 in under-50 MPts).  Director Chris ran the day to produce a single pair-winner in each section.

In the Open field it turned out to be a day for the Restricted/Novice players who were handing out the bridge lessons to their much higher ranked opponents. Peter & Elaine Hume had a narrow victory by 0.9 matchpoints over Beryl Lowry & John Aldersley. Ron Meaney & Cathy Russell filled the 3rd spot on the podium.

AGM under 50

The under-50 MPts field saw Bob Lowry & Dieter Mucharsky win with a huge score of 79%.  Wow, that’s some win. WD guys. Podium spots 2 and 3 went to Annette Clarke & Larry Amos and Merilyn Reid & Caroline Nichols respectively.

There were some challenging boards with the odd slam available to those who dare.  Well done all.... it proved to be a lovely day.
